Rosebowl finals ahead?
After the slight disappointment of Paul Franklin cancelling his judging of the Street and Urban Photography print comp at the last moment due to ill health we had the dubious honour of the Chairman judging the competition. In full credit to him though, and so that he could enter them in the finals he scored his own prints far lower than we suspect they would have received from an independent judge. Judging images by friends is a much harder task as even though the authors name is not revealed, most of us could recognise who submitted a lot of the images. So it was with great pleasure that Andy Smith received the three top marks in the intermediate set subject category, especially as this was one of the first competitions that he had fully entered.
This week has seen the final rounds of the Rosebowl competition and SPPC hosted the match against Abingdon, Field End and Watford. In quite a close fought match, last seasons finals runners-up, Field End won and we managed to secure 2nd position even though what we considered as some of our top images scored lower than we had hoped for. Now it is a matter of hoping that the earlier results have meant we have secured a place in the Finals which will be held at Amersham on Sunday 19th April. Finally even though it was omitted from the printed programmes at the start of the season we have the 3 Nations competition on Tues 10th March, again we will be seeing images from South Africa and Australia so lets hope our external successes this season continue against this stiff competition - our judge Stan McCartin will have his work cut out on that night we are sure.
